Sometimes, in order to see the light, you have to risk the dark.
Will and I start playing the basic scenarios in the Infinity: Operation Icestorm starter set.
Now it’s time to get Infinity on the table an see what all the fuss is about! And after a few false starts – yes, it’s another rulebook trying to be simple but actually succeeding in being unclear – we managed to start getting our head around the reaction system (blessed with the annoying acronym ARO for Automatic Reaction Order) and enjoying ourselves.
Experienced Infinity players will no doubt chuckle to see us floundering about with the most basic of game concepts – and if you can explain the whole reaction thing better than they do in the book, feel free to do so!
More Infinity reports to follow.
Yet another entertaining battle report. Your painted figures look really good.
Will and yourself will have tons of fun as you start adding further rules to your encounters.
Cheers razide. Watch out for episode two, which continues to be a textbook example of how to get the rules completely wrong! 🙂
Stop teasing us. What did you get wrong?
We never got the hang of the action-reaction system as it’s explained so badly in the rulebook. Instead we fell back on old ideas of how overwatch works in similar games. Infinity is quite different. Check out the comments under the YouTube version of the above video for some insight into that by some more experienced players.
I think with miniatures that look this good, it doesn’t really matter what you get wrong.
Thankyou, and I haven’t even detailed and highlighted them yet!
Very nice battle report. You both seemed to be having a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to the subsequent vids.
Just don’t use them to learn the game, as we really stuffed up the fundamentals!
For your next games, you could try using your Deadzone scenery 🙂
Yes indeed. The walled buildings would be good. Things like the tower which has a base of girders you can see through are not quite as useful, as cover is so important in this game.
That’s true. Shooting seems to be much deadlier in Infinity than Deadzone. In Deadzone (unless you’re a Sniper or very lucky with the dice) it’s hard to kill anyone in a single round of shooting.
