And the last place you want to be is cooped up with a dozen Norwegian guys.
A whole new edition of Deadzone means a brand new rules summary and reference.
After just a few years Mantic decided it was time to ‘update and improve’ Deadzone, so another Kickstarter campaign later, Deadzone Second Edition has arrived. According to Mantic it is ‘ faster, bloodier and easier to learn’, and while I wish I’d played more games of the original system, after all the time I put into making the original rules summary and reference, simplicity is probably a good thing in this case. First edition was a bit fiddly. Plus, they’ve improved the quality of the original figures by making them in a decent hard plastic this time.
I was pleased to see Mantic has made the new rules available on their website, so if you already have the game, all you need is a set of the new Command dice. I’m looking forward to giving the new system a go and seeing how it plays out.
I decided to keep this in the same listing as the original game, for the sake of simplicity.
Thanks for that. Still not got around to assembling and painting Deadzone 2.0, but the rules reference will be useful.
I’ve ordered a set of the dice, so I’ll try these new rules out soon myself.
One set of dice in the starter box. Need two really, one per player. Or have to write down results.
But don’t you roll 3 dice per player each turn? There are 6 dice in the pack I bought.
Three dice unless you have a leader that adds a dice (Tactician rule) I think. This is based on watching a play through at Beasts of War I think with a Mantic guy there.
That’s really bloody cheap in that case, they should have made the pack 8 dice.
Cheap solution is scan the dice symbols and print out tokens. Use those to remember rolls and reroll dice.
Pity I didn’t think of that before I bought second set of dice….
Thanks for the rules summary, UH. Haven’t even assembled my DZ 2 minis but they are very nice. Hard plastic. Much easier to put together compared to the horrendous restic of version 1.
Also thankful I’ve 2 sets of dice, even though it cost $100 to get them 😉
Thanks for this UH, your original Deadzone aid is what brought me to the Order in the first place (via BGG) , and then I found your excellent series of videos and it inspired me to paint my own set in record time ( for me )
V2 Deadzone is a much better version of Deadzone, plays a lot cleaner, intuitively and fairer.
One thing, I noticed there don’t seem to be the modifiers for the Shoot action on this iteration of the game aid ?
Well that’s embarrassing, I missed the shooting modifiers! Sorry about that! Will fix asap.
Also: Your topic heading here is second ediTON” 😉
I really did have an off day!
Still awesome work mate 🙂
All fixed now.
Thank you so much! I played the game and really really enjoyed it… and I think that this reference sheet helped.
Overall I found it to be a very nice game with an added campaign system. The rules are quick and simple, and that’s an advantage I think it has over other sci-fi skirmish games. Good stuff, thanks for sharing!
I still haven’t got around to playing with the new rules!
You’ve really got to give this one a try. I love it, a big improvement over DZ1!
I did – and I agree!
