Here it is folks: the first battle report in Battle Report Month. Let’s put the pedal to the metal with Gaslands.
The car combat game Gaslands has caused a remarkable stir in tabletop gaming circles, causing lots of people to rummage through the old toy boxes in their attic, drag out Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, and convert them into post-apocalyptic engines of speed and destruction. It’s also brought back some of the true joy of hobby wargaming – recalling the times when all you needed were a set of rules and some imagination. There are no huge, expensive starter sets here, and no endless series of expansions fighting to get your dollars – just a slim volume from Osprey Games. You can even make your own templates if you wish (though I highly recommend the plastic ones).
So what better game to kick off this Battle Report Month (that’s one battle report per week, all month, with a bonus one for Steward level subscribers and up!) – than Gaslands. Will and I lined up six cars for a death race, the countdown began, the horn sounded – and, serenaded by the screech of tyres spinning on ash, six drivers were pressed back in their seats by the sudden acceleration. Who will survive the race to take the winner’s trophy?
Wasn’t interested in that game, not really a racing game kinda person, but it does look fun…you had fun anyway.
The custom dice and templates does push the price up a bit though.
It’s not just about racing, it’s more about car combat. This is just one scenario. You can make your own dice and templates – and even with them, the cost of the game isn’t a patch on the cost of any other game out there, because you can very cheaply make your own cars. It’s a really fun game and one of the best new tabletop games for years, IMHO.

I’m afraid not – the author Mike makes his money from just selling the rulebook; if I made a summary I’d be taking away the well-earned recompense for all his hard work!
