Cold War: CIA vs KGB

In a covert clash of ideology, politics, guerilla warfare, and dirty tricks, each player must establish the dominance and superiority of his country’s worldview.

An easy to learn, enjoyable card game with excellent graphic design and theming, only slightly let down by the fact that the main mechanic is really just a variation on blackjack. Still, here your secret agents are influencing economies, the military, media, and politics in an attempt to change the ideology of nations. Much more fun!

I’m not a card game player by nature, but this is the exception. I love this game. I know you get a barrage of requests, but I would love to get your take on the oft-overlooked gladiator classic Morituri Te Salutant, or even MERCS. Sometimes great obscure games slip through the cracks.

Really appreciate your huge contribution to the hobby, Peter. Sending some GG your way at the ‘Geek!

I hadn’t heard of Morituri Te Salutant. With one or two exceptions, Vlaada’s games tend to be a bit complex and fiddly for my taste however, especially Mage Knight, which I didn’t enjoy at all …

I agree, Cold War is a great little card game though.

I agree and don’t like fiddly games either.
Luckily for MTS Black Powder has some very nice full color fan-created cards for free on their page. This makes playing the game a breeze.

    Hey Peter:

Just picked up the Stronghold Games version of “Confusion”. Haven’t had a chance to give it a play yet, but the graphics and components look really great. Looks thematically similar to “Cold War” but as an abstract. Hope to get your take if you ever check it out.

Thanks, wasn’t aware of that one. Just checked out the Dice Tower review, and while the production looks impressive, the unknown movement and marking off things in the books really, really didn’t appeal! Perhaps too abstract for my taste.
