This is either madness… or brilliance.
The EOG asks the age-old question: is Dreadfleet crap? This three-part batrep discovers the answer!
Probably one of the most beautiful yet also one of the most pilloried games ever, Dreadfleet caused a storm of excitement when it was released that quickly settled to a stagnant pond as gamers realised how long and random the game could be. But has the game received an unjust reputation (possibly not improved by the rumour that Games Workshop recalled many copies due to poor sales and destroyed them).
The Esoteric Order of Gamers, represented here by Will and Peter, set sail on the high seas to find out the answer in this epic three-part battle report series!
Any comments about Games Workshop are my own and do not necessarily reflect the view of the Esoteric Order of Gamers. All mentions of Games Workshop and Dreadfleet and any of the characters or ships in Dreadfleet are TM, registered, copyright and completely and utterly the property of Games Workshop and no ownership is implied or suggested and in no way is any offence intended towards the very nice hardworking people and lawyers at Games Workshop.
Looking forwards to the rest of this battle report, as I bought Dreadfleet a few years and found the prospect of assembling and painting it a daunting task….
But now that I have spend months painting Warmachine and Hordes, it seems less so…
And your ships look great. My fleet will not compare, but I’m willing to take the plunge…. soon as I have the time.
Bloody awful typing by me. I blame tiredness and booze. Sorry!
Parts 2 and 3 coming soon!
Brilliant paint jobs on those ships and a very impressive looking table as well. I don’t know about the quality of the rules, but it looks great.
It’s certainly a beautiful game when it’s all painted up.
It looks like a lot of fun… and it should if you’re going to set up that big mat and paint the figs etc. Could’ve been a great adjunct game to whfb with fleet action campaign days one week and then whfb land battles the next… But GW and the quick roi to please shareholders reared its ugly head…
Have u tried Frostgrave? It’s the new flavour of the month and is the anti GW game (cheap and easy) that’s the ” new Mordheim ”
The new place is even better than the last! Springtime in NZ looks amazing…
I haven’t heard of Frostgrave. I do have Mordheim though (in storage unfortunately) and enjoy it.
Frostgrave was an excellent buy for me, as it allowed me to my Rackham Confrontation miniatures. I managed to put together a pretty funky warband.
Nice battle report. Looking forward to parts 2 & 3 but… wot… no more Wrath of Kings??? 🙁
Be patient grasshopper.
Ah, so, Mastah… glasshoppah will wait…
So… you reckon Man O’War is “the best GW game ever” and Dreadfleet has a somewhat poorer reputation (had I read the reviews before I bought it… I’d have spent the money elsewhere… but that’s life!), would it be possible to play Dreadfleet with Man O’War rules? Or are they totally incompatible?
Incompatible, I’d say. The ships aren’t the same scale, you’d have to design ship templates and how the special abilities worked – it’d be a lot of work.
I’m surprised you guys weren’t Kraken more jokes throughout the video.
Are you here all week? 🙂
……….Yes. I’m guessing that fills you with………Dread. I can’t wait to be a Dad with these jokes.
