Something in the multiverse has shattered, and now the universe is bleeding.
If you enjoy Wildlands—and I very much do—and you’re a fan of the iconic British comic 2000AD, in the pages of which Judge Dredd was born—and I very much am—you’re the perfect fit for Judge Dredd: Helter Skelter. The game takes place in Mega-City One but, with a bit of multiverse twiddling, brings characters from Sláine, Nikolai Dante, and Strontium Dog fighting with each other and the Judges in an all-in 2000AD slugathon!
Helter Skelter doesn’t try to push the Wildlands formula much—there are some slight tweaks for the use of psi powers, and of course some special abilities—but the system works as well as ever and the production is gorgeous. The miniatures are great, though personally speaking I would have preferred to see a faction a bit more interesting than Nikolai Dante, which I hadn’t heard of before. Rogue Trooper for example? We can only hope there are more factions coming in the future—and more maps too, please!
Of course there has been one excellent expansion so far, and that is the Dark Judges set, which also includes rules for playing solo. Dredd versus the Dark Judges: what more would you want?
For me, this is a no-brainer, as I’m always happy to see more games set in the 2000AD universes. In the meantime, Wildlands is a perfect fit for a fun, fast, skirmish game with bold and interesting characters. Grab yourself a copy and start throwing those perps in the iso-cubes!
