Tactical skirmish combat in the 41st millenium.
There’s quite a long history of Kill Team releases now from its humble beginnings as a little W40K variant, and depending when you choose to count from, this could be 3rd edition or 6th edition – but in any case I’ve chosen to follow the convention of naming the editions by the date they were released. Kill Team 2024 was heralded by a big boxed set called Hivestorm, and I think I can safely say it’s the best edition yet.
Apart from a few annoyingly specific new terminology changes, the rules have been cleaned up, and we’ve thankfully seen the end of the silly convention of equating move increments with geometric symbols (whew!) Really, the new edition is more tweaks than an overhaul. And that’s fine, because Kill Team is working well. One new addition is the ability to select battlefield equipment as part of your team load out, which is fun and gives GW the opportunity to make some nice little terrain bits like ladders, barricades and razor wire.
I just wish I could find the time to play it more often, because I really do enjoy the game, despite it often relying too heavily on special rules and abilities to the point where you’re constantly looking things up (as usual, I’ve had to design my own unit cards). But it doesn’t take more than a game or two with the same team to start to get to know and remember its capabilities.
