Think I waited too long to retire.
Here’s another quick tip—something I wish someone had told me a long time ago!
I hate to think how much paint and varnish I’ve breathed in over the years as a miniatures painter. There are many ways that you fool yourself you’re taking precautions — holding your breath, spraying in bursts, then running away to gulp air, or wearing those cheap little paper masks, for example – but nothing beats a high quality, expensive, professional gas mask. If you do a lot of miniatures painting I highly recommend you spend the money and get one (and while you’re there, get safety goggles to protect your eyes). Finally you’ll be able to comfortable spray your minis without breathing in any of the gunk. It just might save your life in the long term!
Of course, the same can’t be said for saving my clothes. This video is illustrative of how much spray you can potentially breathe in, because when I’m spraying at the end, I didn’t see anywhere as much varnish billowing about as you see from this camera angle. So don’t delay – spray smart!
