Keep on riding me and they’re gonna be picking iron out of your liver.
Walk the mean streets of 1930s New York to unbox Deadline, a hard-boiled game of crime and mystery!
This gorgeous little co-operative card game of 30s noir detective mysteries has been on the boil for quite a while, and I first started doing some graphics work on it back when it was going to be a board game. You might even call it hard-boiled. Boom-tish! I created the logo and a little bit of layout art, and then Adam and Dan (who you may know from their games Galactic Emperor, Wizards of the Wild, and Ninjato – the latter of which I worked on) took a break to go back to the drawing board, to eventually re-emerge with this clever card game made up of 12 distinctive ‘cases’. There’s hand management and clue matching, but there are also fully-fledged crime and mystery stories with questions to answer, characters to meet, and riddles to solve.
It’s a beautiful production with some pitch-perfect artwork by illustrator Glen Orbik – who unfortunately passed away of cancer just two years ago. Most of the rest of the graphic design is by Adam, who has become good enough to not need me at all, damn it! 🙂
Reviews have been great, the theme is spot-on, and I’m really looking forward to getting this one on the table. I’m sure this will be a success and they’ll be more cases on the way, though the 12 in this box will certainly keep you going for quite a while.
