This whole thing’s under your shack? For 20 years, you’ve had this fookin’ thing hidden out here?
Let’s unbox the Pilot Kickstarter pledge for Weta Workshop’s GKR (that’s Giant Killer Robots): Heavy Hitters!
When this Cryptozoic/Weta Workshop Kickstarter campaign launched I gave it a look, and I concluded that giant battling robots itch had already been scratched by Monsterpocalypse. But past decisions tend to be re-examined when one of your local game suppliers (Seriously Board) happens to mention they have some Pilot pledges available – including the stretch goals of course – and it can be on your doorstep in a few days. What a sucker for new games I am!
And I’m glad I have zero willpower, because the game looks great. The design (from the same team that worked on the the Neill Blomkamp films District 9 and Elysium) is quite stunning – especially the four eponymous giant killer robots. And the straightforward card-driven game system seems to push all the right buttons. So here it is in all its future-tech satirical glory – GKR: Heavy Hitters! Hopefully will be just the first of many more boardgame concept designs from the talented people at Weta Workshop.
Looks cool. Like a mix of monsterpocalypse and mechwarrior… Also +1 for Assorted Images (aka Malcolm Garrett) design reference…( It does kinda look like the cover of Sparkle in the Rain!) 🙂
Nice catch!
