Be careful not to choke on your aspirations, Director.
A very quick look at Rise of the Empire, the new expansion for Star Wars: Rebellion by Fantasy Flight Games.
I’ve played a couple of games of Star Wars: Rebellion now – one with two players and one with four – and I must admit the game hasn’t quite clicked with me yet. Perhaps it’s because I’ve never been a rabid Star Wars fan, but mostly because the cat-and-mouse search for the Rebel base has seemed a bit frustrating in such a long game. But I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and try again, because I just purchased the new expansion Rise of the Empire. This covers film Rogue One, a film which, controversially, I thought was the kind of poorly made tosh despearately pieced together by a committe of executives in an editing suite that sadly passes for filmic entertainment so often these days.
This expansion does more than throw in a few forgettable characters with no discernable character arcs however, it completely revamps the combat system, bringing more thematic goodness to what was an often-criticised element of the original game. Add in a bunch of new miniatures, and I’m hoping this will be enough to make me see the light when it comes to this long and complex game.
