A universe of cards and cardboard
The EOG explores the huge amount of stuff you get in the Duel of Ages II sets.
Two Joy of Unboxing videos in a week—games have been arriving at the EOG’s new headquarters, all eager to fulfil their purpose in life. Which is to be played of course! Not to mention to enjoy being the beneficiaries of rules summaries, reviews and all mannner of EOG-style enhancement.
This time it’s Duel of Ages II, the impressive game of tactical combat and crazy character interaction by Worldspanner. I’m a complete newbie to this game, but I’m eager to try it out after reading some glowing reviews. And now I have the whole kit and caboodle—the basic set, master set and extra platters set—there’s no stopping me! Keep an eye on the EOG for a rules summary and reference sheet, as per usual—and later, a review and interview with the designer.
Watch as I stumble through the opening of two big boxes and wade my way though a mountain of cardboard and an ocean of cards. They’ll be some counter punchin’ in the old’ town tonight.
By the way, the Esoteric Order of Gamers YouTube channel has just hit 800 subscribers. Woot!
After reading about the game for years and being underwhelmed by what I saw (but intrigued by fans’ devotion to the game), I broke down and bought the Basic AND Master Sets together this past summer. It doesn’t get to the table as often as I like, but I now consider it one of the jewels in my collection. I’m so delighted that the game will be getting your “special treatment”!
I feel the same—I’m not crazy about some of the art and there are graphic design issues, but I finally played this last night and I now see what all the fuss is about, it was huge fun. You definitely need the right players who will get into it, but the rules flow very easily once you get the hang of them, and the stories and situations that crop up are hilarious. First impressions report soon.
