Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo?
The War of the Ring rules summary and reference sheets are updated to v4.
The War of the Ring rules summary and reference sheets set is a huge and unwieldy beast, but it’s one of those projects that always feels as if it could be tweaked closer towards perfection. One thing I always find difficult when playing this classic game is remembering when the special characters enter the game, and what they do. While the sheets have always summarised this info, this version features a special sheet for each player with a more easily referenced table for the special characters, and which also includes a picture of the relevant miniatures (and their special dice, where appropriate).
I’ve also fixed a long-standing minor error: Nazgûl are brought in on Sauron strongholds, not Shadow player strongholds. A crucial distinction and something that should have been fixed long ago—and now it is!
Printed this out today ready for a game next week. It’s going to War of the Ring or Star Wars Rebellion. Never played Rebellion, but the number of reference sheets in WotR is putting me off… getting a headache just thinking about playing.
It’s not an easy game, but any experienced boardgame player won’t have any problems. The main thing we used to find difficult is remembering the info about the characters, and I’ve summarised all that on two handy-dandy character reference sheets.
Just watched a video of a round sequence by a very slow speaking person. I hate slow talkers, but it helped a bit. Didn’t go into detail of each phase and I’m sure there will be a multitude of rules questions during play.
Have you read through my summary? It would be interesting to know if it’s enough for complete newbies. But everything’s in there.
Just play it – I think I played about 4 times before I felt I’d got everything right, but I enjoyed myself each time so it doesn’t matter!
I did play once before using 1st edition rules and the starter rules which I think misses a lot out, plus it was two years ago.
The 1st edition rules were pretty confusing.
